Let us take a quick look at screenshots of the actual VIPRE antivirus software in action, see the Premium Edition, and highlight the differences between regular and premium security versions. VIPRE has been created to work as you do. It has an easy, simple user friendly interface that is designed for both new and advanced users.

The main overview screen gives you the status of VIPRE. On the left is the status of VIPREs key components. On the upper right is what we call VIPREs active space which provides realtime live information from our research center. This dedicated area in VIPRE allows our researchers to give you immediate information of any major security issues on the internet. On the lower right, is a statistics section showing you how many times you scanned with VIPRE, and how many risks have been found and removed.

VIPRE is designed to be as self explanatory and straightforward as possible, with sections for scanning, management, and tools. If you owned VIPRE Premium, you will see this additional section for the firewall.

Let us take a look at the scanning section first.

On the scan screen, you can choose a quick scan or a deep scan which takes longer but is more thorough. The custom scan area lets you choose which options to scan.

Now lets move to the Manage Section which helps you manage certain parts of VIPRE, such as your scan history and items that have been quarantined. Always blocked and always allowed is where you can tell VIPRE to block or allow certain programs.

Schedule Scans lets you choose when you want to run scans on your system.

System Tools is a collection of useful tools that can help improve your security.

Use the Secure File Eraser to permanently remove files from your system.

The History Cleaner can clean out the history of where you have been on the internet for privacy purposes.

Now lets take a look at active protection. we recommend you keep active protection enabled unless you are running another antivirus product. You cannot run VIPRE's active protection when another product is running its own antivirus real-time protection.

When you are editing the settings of any main feature, you can also edit other areas. In this case, lets take a look at the Firewall. Again, this feature is only available in the VIPRE Premium antivirus software program, our new edition.

By enabling the Firewall, VIPRE will now enable monitoring your internet connection for potentially unwanted traffic. More to follow on that in a moment. The Intrusion Detection system is an additional protection that is part of the Firewall. It looks for certain types of malicious activities and is an optional, additional layer of protection.

If you have the Bad Website Block enabled, thousands of malicious websites will now be blocked from your computer. If VIPRE finds that a website you are browsing is malicious, it will not allow access to that page and will come up with a warning such as this one:

You can also access additional features in the web filter's settings. Blocking 3rd party advertisements, for example, will block many types of adds. Give it a try. You might find it helpful to browse your favorite websites without so much clutter.

Host intrusion prevention helps prevent against a certain type of attack known as code injection. It is a bit more technical to get into, however, there are harmless programs that use code injection and you may need to train VIPRE as to what alerts you receive.

Back to the Firewall. When you first installed VIPRE, you were asked a question: Whether you wanted VIPRE Firewall in Simple, without a popup Mode, or Learning Mode.

Simple is a basic level of protection, which stops someone from outside your PC to access your computer. The Learning Mode is a bit more advanced. It enables threats from both threats coming in, as well as many threat types of outbound internet communication. This is known as a 2 Way Firewall. If you enable Learning Mode, you will get prompts asking your permission for programs to communicate outside of your computer. Many of these programs will be completely harmless, so you will have to train the Firewall to learn what is an acceptable or not.

Over time, your Firewall will become trained and will not have to ask your permission for many common tasks.

You can always change from what is Simple to Learning, by clicking Reset to Defaults in the Firewall setting screen at any time.
